Traveling back to 1999, circles of the LBGTQIA+ community, as well as their friends and family, began getting together for potlucks once a month to socialize at each other’s homes. These gatherings grew and grew until one party reached a stunning thirty-five people in attendance! Soon only meeting up at larger homes could accommodate everyone.
Fast forward to December 2006. . . . .after more giant potlucks that transformed the gatherings from “wine and cheese” meetings to full-blown parties, a group of good friends began discussing the possibility of transitioning the casual gatherings to official Club status.
With the help of several dedicated volunteers, a Club charter was created, including the name of the organization, definition of the officers’ roles, structure of the organization, terms of office, and quorum guidelines, just to name a few. This key document was submitted to the Sun City Board and soon. . . . .the Rainbow Circle of Friends & Family was born!
